Italy Steps Up Enforcement Against Misleading Telemarketing Calls
What's New?
On October 12, Italy's communications regulator (AGCOM) announced fines totaling €822,500 against two companies for failing to comply with obligations governing telephone numbers used in telemarketing.
The violations included inadequate verification of numbers used by call centers, including measures addressing caller ID spoofing.
AGCOM also reported that its anti-spoofing filters had blocked approximately 191 million suspicious or non-compliant international calls during the first eight months of 2026.
Why It Matters
The enforcement highlights the importance of oversight throughout the telemarketing supply chain, particularly caller identification, number verification and the traceability of marketing calls.
Recommended Action
Organizations conducting telephone marketing in Italy should verify the numbers used by their call centers, review supplier oversight arrangements and ensure that marketing campaigns can be traced to their source.
